The second European GNSS (Galileo) Initial Services Open Service (IS OS) quarterly performance report, for the period April-June 2017, has been published and is now available online in the GSC Electronic Library.

Following the declaration of Initial Services in December 2016, the first Galileo IS OS Performance Report - for Q1 2017 - was published in May, and new editions are being published on a quarterly basis. These quarterly reports provide the public with the latest information on the Galileo Open Service measured performance statistics, in particular, on parameters such as:

  • Galileo Initial OS ranging performance,
  • Galileo Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) dissemination,
  • Galileo to GPS Time Offset (GGTO) determination performance, and
  • Timely publication of NAGUs (Notice Advisories to Galileo Users).

Each of these parameters is examined relative to their Minimum Performance Levels (MPLs), as defined in the Galileo OS Service Definition Document (OS SDD).

Highlights from Q2 2017

As in the first quarter, the measured Galileo Initial Open Service performance figures for the second quarter of 2017 generally exceed the MPL targets specified in the OS SDD by significant margins.

Some highlights from the Q2 performance report:

  • The availability of the Galileo Ranging Service at the Worst User Location (WUL) and the availability of a healthy signal were significantly better than expected;
  • Both the availability of the Galileo UTC Time Determination and the GGTO Determination Service were achieved, with all monthly values above MPL targets;
  • Excellent values were achieved for the UTC Time Dissemination Service accuracy.

1st Galileo User Assembly

The IS OS Performance Reports will help feed the discussion at the 1st Galileo User Assembly, which is set to take place on November 28-29, 2017. Hosted by the GSC at its premises in Madrid, the Assembly will give Galileo users the opportunity to discuss their needs, share their experience, and provide feedback on Galileo performance.

The Assembly will include:

  • A Galileo User Consultation Platform (UCP) in 4 thematic groups (transport, mass market, professional and R&D);

  • A general update on the Galileo programme;

  • Presentations on Galileo Initial Services performance, the Galileo Services Roadmap and the Galileo User Interfaces; and

  • A Galileo User Satisfaction Survey.

You can pre-register to attend the 1st Galileo User Assembly here. Places are limited, so applying does not guarantee your attendance. You will receive a confirmation via email once your request is processed.
